One of the ways that the Youth Coalition aims to
achieve its objectives is through advocacy and the development of policy.
We have a range of general policy positions that are outlined in our
Policy Platform. These are agreed upon at a Bi-Annual Policy Conference
attended by our membership.
We also develop policy responses throughout
the year in response to government actions and developments. We provide
responses for proposed
changes to legislation and to draft strategies, plans and papers.
Through consulting closely with our membership, we represent their
interests
to other stakeholders such as the ACT Government, Australian Government
and to independent Commissions and statutory bodies.
We also undertake
a range of advocacy work that aims to raise awareness of emerging
issues to both government and to the broader community.
We strive to ensure that emerging issues are brought to the attention
of policy makers within government and that continuing problems
are responded to.
The key ways in which the Youth Coalition works on
policy and advocacy issues is through:
-
Making submissions to inquiries,
reviews and consultations.
-
Writing letters to key stakeholders.
-
Conducting independent
research and consultations with our membership and with young
people.
-
Issuing
media releases.
-
Meeting with ministers, members of parliament and
key members of the public service.
-
Running campaigns on specific
issues of concern.
-
Supporting and working with other organisations,
groups and movement who have similar values and objectives to the
Youth Coalition.
-
Raising awareness of the opportunity for others to
give input on relevant issues.
